An American friend was irate regarding Noble Peace Prize Committee’s selecting Carter, Krugman, Gore, & Obama, who are American “figures who excessively care about the way foreign nations view them” (in her words).  She wrote:

“We, as a nation, take on huge challenges and risks, and sacrifice the most monetarily to uphold international organizations (UN-25%, OECD-25%, NATO-almost everything)…and yet we are subjected to the Committee’s messaging and tactics, which have diluted the award and their credibility to pass judgment on the Bush legacy and wag their finger at the American people. Thanks, Nobel, for making the tough decisions.”

I grabbed the opportunity for the soapbox here. I responded to her immediately the following:

Ok, why should a giant dog care too much about a flea bite? Or two or three? Come on, there are more things to bare those teeth at, than just the Nobel Prize Committee’s obvious biases (which by the way are made more obvious to you because of where you’re from).

Be feisty about US commitments abroad where misinformation drives their justifications, misguided notions drive their leaders, and misjudged timelines and needs limit the effectiveness of those policies.

Be feisty about competing loyalties and interests within the US borders from various levels of entities, colluding the process of “democracy” in the US.  Or the controlled media.

Be feisty about ever-increasing ordinances, regulations at the local level that make life more complex and inundated with stressful details that run counter to common sense. Or how about that these address symptoms of a deeper underlying issue, not the source.

Be feisty about the general public’s malaise at understanding the whole picture of how the government and big corporations screw everyone of a good diet, of their actual property rights, or of even, what marriage and having children ultimately means in the eye of the law.

Sorry… I can’t believe I wrote so much already. haha
