Try www.writeordie.com. It is a software you can download (or the web version works too) that starts to punish you if you take too long of a pause when writing. For example, I am on it right now, with the timer going.
You punch in how many words you want to write, in what period of time. The settings are adjustable too. You can have it on “evil” or have it on a lenient, forgiving mode. In writing this blog, I’m shooting for 200 words in 10 minutes. That’s easy, so I have it on “strict.” If I pause too long, this thing will turn pink, red, make noises at me, and if it is getting really annoyed by my lack of attention or my procrastination, it may do worse. I’ll leave that to your imagination, because I never dared to anger it beyond that point, even when I desperately needed to go to the bathroom.
Now here is the list of writer ailments it takes care of:
- you need someone to prod you to start writing what you know you’re going to write
- you’re stuck and just want to freestyle your way out of your state
- you procrastinated writing a blog for a long while and don’t know how to start
- you are a preparation freak, wanting to know exactly what to write before you start… this will cure you of that real quick, because all you have to do is start and the heat is on!
Ha! Take that, write or die! That was 6 minutes. Mua-hahaha!
Happy (evil) writing,
Misheel.
